On the rocks | Am Felsen
On the trail of the ancient Greeks we make our way across the Saronic Gulf to the town of Epidavrus where every summer ancient Greek plays are rehearsed and see a performance of Oedipus. From here we head straight to Paros to start our journey into the Aegean. At special request we hop over to Mykonos where we drop anchor in the middle of the old town harbour after a brief stop to catch a fish next to the ancient site of Delos.
As a contrast to the Mykonos vibe we head to Tinos, which surprises us with its intense katabatic winds which reach over 45 kts close to the island and make it difficult for us to approach close to the island. We finally manage to drop anchor near the harbour and pick up Luisa. A short visit to the island concludes with a power cut and forces to to move our cooking plans back on to the solar-battery powered boat.
With the rising meltemi we breeze over to Syros in surprising comfort considering we measured up to 52 kts during the passage. Arriving in Syros we are joined by four more crew members. Syros' abandoned yacht harbour is conveniently located close to the venue of the local indie rock festival!
Filled up with fuel and water we decide to use the pleasant conditions to speed towards Donoussa, a small quiet island on the other side of Naxos. A highlight of this island is the seal cave that is only accessible by boat and we try an unusual mooring method by going alongside and tying up directly to the rocks.
Auf den Spuren der alten Griechen fahren wir über den Saronischen Golf nach Epidauros, wo jeden Sommer antike griechische Theaterstücke geprobt und eine Ödipus-Aufführung gezeigt wird. Von hier aus fahren wir direkt nach Paros, um unsere Reise in die Ägäis zu beginnen. Auf besonderen Wunsch machen wir einen Abstecher nach Mykonos, wo wir nach einem kurzen Stopp zum Angeln neben der antiken Stätte Delos mitten im Hafen der Altstadt ankern.
Als Kontrastprogramm zum Mykonos-Feeling steuern wir Tinos an, das uns mit seinen starken Fallwinden überrascht, die in Inselnähe über 45 Knoten erreichen und es uns schwer machen, uns der Insel zu nähern. Schließlich gelingt es uns, in Hafennähe vor Anker zu gehen und Luisa aufzunehmen. Ein kurzer Besuch auf der Insel endet mit einem Stromausfall und zwingt uns, unsere Kochpläne auf das solarbetriebene Boot zu verlegen.
Mit dem aufkommenden Meltemi gleiten wir überraschend komfortabel nach Syros, wenn man bedenkt, dass wir während der Überfahrt bis zu 52 Knoten gemessen haben. Bei unserer Ankunft in Syros treffen wir vier weitere Crewmitglieder. Der verlassene Yachthafen von Syros liegt praktischerweise in der Nähe des Veranstaltungsortes des lokalen Indie-Rock-Festivals!
Mit Benzin und Wasser vollgetankt, beschließen wir, die angenehmen Bedingungen zu nutzen, um mit hoher Geschwindigkeit nach Donoussa zu fahren, einer kleinen, ruhigen Insel auf der anderen Seite von Naxos. Ein Highlight dieser Insel ist die Robbenhöhle, die nur mit dem Boot erreichbar ist. Wir versuchen eine ungewöhnliche Anlegemethode: Wir legen längsseits an und machen direkt an den Felsen fest.
