The Nordic Metropolis

After spending the first night in Oslo in the swanky Aker Brygge, we distance ourselves from this overpriced harbour and make fast at a very high quayside with nice views of Oslo's unique opera house. This spot makes for a great base to explore the Nordic metropolis and encounter the diverse crowds frequenting this vibrant quay. Taking to wheeled land travel for a day, we learn about the history of sea voyages at the Viking Ship Museum.

We head down the fjord with a light breeze gently carrying us to Sandspollen, a pretty bay filled nearly to capacity with almost 50 boats. Happy to escape the buzz of the fjord we make a stop on a small island at its mouth named Østre Bolærne. Heading into a strong breeze we cross into Sweden, braving big waves and narrow channels and anchor in a bay by the island of Kalvön. The next day we take a little bit of distance from the coast to be able to head into the southwesterly breeze towards the adorable small island of Käringön. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this off season holiday town while waiting for more favorable wind directions.
